The year I started with travel beyond

2010

My Most Memorable Travel Moment

I know my answer is technically cheating, but I can’t pick just one favorite moment. My top five include standing on top of Maya ruins in Belize overlooking the vast jungle, flying over the majestic Victoria Falls, seeing cheetah for the first time in South Africa, swimming with dolphins (including a baby dolphin!) in The Bahamas and watching a stunning African sunset while bouncing in the back of a safari vehicle.

My Most Embarrassing Travel Moment

In an attempt to make my cousin laugh, I started dancing on top of the Xunantunich Maya ruins in Belize. Since we were the only two on top of the tallest structure, I was breaking out all my best (read: worst) dance moves. Midway through a rotation of the dance most commonly called “The Sprinkler,” I came face-to-face with a Dutch tourist. Apparently, we weren’t alone. The tourist and my cousin were unable to stop laughing as they tried to explain the situation to the man’s travel companion. Obviously caught, all I could do was throw my hands up and laugh. At least I’m probably the only person in the world who broke out The Sprinkler atop Maya ruins!

My Favorite Meal While Traveling

Fruit, bread and desserts top my list no matter where I travel. From a breakfast of fresh watermelon juice and sweet rolls in Central America to dinners of bushbuck kabobs and malva pudding in South Africa, I’ve been spoiled with delicious meals.
