Botswana Weather

Botswana is a year-round safari destination with two distinct safari seasons, each one advantageous for travelers.

Dry Season: Winter (June – October)

  • Cloudless, sunny days; cool/cold nights; and crisp mornings
  • Outstanding game viewing: animals gather around remaining water sources while less dense vegetation makes animals easier to see
  • The bush is dry and brown so many predators blend in
  • Average temperatures: 40F night, 80F day
  • October game viewing is phenomenal, but it is the hottest month with daytime temperatures reaching a sticky 95-110F
  • Peak safari camp rates

Green Season: Summer (November – May)

  • Lush and green with beautiful wildflowers and water lilies
  • Excellent birding as all the migrant species have returned
  • Rich colors for photography
  • New-born antelopes
  • The bush is alive with the sounds of birds, frogs and insects
  • Rains usually come in short, regional, heavy thunderstorms creating gorgeous skies
  • Average temperatures: 64F night, 95F day
  • Peak rain months are January and February
  • Off-peak safari camp rates
