Mashatu Nature Reserve

The largest privately owned game reserve in southern Africa is the rugged home to an enormous elephant population and remote luxury safari camps. Because of its location at the South Africa border, a Mashatu safari complements a Kruger National Park safari in South Africa very well.

What Will I See?

  • A vast, game-rich and remote wilderness area
  • Luxury safari camps
  • Excellent elephant viewing
  • Abundant predators
  • Large Mashatu and Baobab trees

What Can I Do?

  • Game drives in open vehicles
  • Game drives with elephant and predator researchers based in camp
  • Walking safaris
  • Mountain biking
  • Horseback safaris

When Should I Go?

Green Season: November – March

  • Antelope calves are born
  • Dense greenery
  • Excellent birding as summer migrants come to the area
  • Abundant Cheetah viewing as they follow the impala into the area

Dry Season: April – October

  • Arid, very dry and dusty
  • Spectacular sunsets because of the dust in the air
  • Warm days and cold nights
  • Huge concentrations of animals around waterholes
  • Excellent lion and leopard sightings
