Where Should I Go?

Lake Malawi

This inland tropical sea accounts for 20% of Malawi’s surface area and contains the greatest variety of freshwater fish species of any other lake on Earth.

Lake Malawi National Park

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its aquatic habitats and endemic freshwater fish species, Lake Malawi National Park is the world’s first freshwater National Park.

Liwonde National Park

Malawi’s premier wildlife park has a tropical feel and is known for its excellent birding and huge hippo population more than the dense game viewing of other southern African reserves.

Nyika National Park

Malawi’s largest park is a giant, rolling, grassland plateau with scenery unlike anything else in Africa.

Mount Mulanje

Known as the “island in the sky,” Mount Mulanje is a hiker’s paradise.

When Should I Go?

Tropical temperatures vary from over 100F in the low-lying valleys to below freezing on the plateaus.

Winter: from June through Aug; weather is marked by warm days and cool nights
Green season: from November through March; the peak rain months are January, February, March
Summer: from January through March; this is the hot, rainy season
Dry season: from April through October, with October and November becoming hot and humid months
July: coolest month
August: best weather month
