The Namib Desert & Sossusvlei
Namibia’s most famous destination. The oldest desert in the world is a shifting, red-sand sea home to the highest dunes in the world and a surprising number of life forms sustained by the coastal fog.
What Will I See?
- Red sand dunes towering 1,000 feet above the valley floor
- Sossusvlei – an immense clay pan with petrified trees enclosed by red dunes
- Dramatic desert landscapes – gravel plains, sand dunes and rugged mountains
- Desert-adapted animal species including kudu, zebra, oryx, springbok, ostrich, hyena, bat-eared fox and jackal
- Intimate safari camps in spectacular settings complete with dramatic views and unique desert activities
What Can I Do?
- A “Big Daddy” climb — it’s the second highest dune in the world — and tumble all the way down
- Eearly morning excursions to the red dunes for dramatic sunrise colors
- Walks amongst petrified trees surrounded by giant dunes in the surreal expanse of Dead Vlei.

- Horseback riding
- Bird watching
May-September is a good time to visit as temperatures are cooler
