Lower Zambezi National Park

After plunging over Victoria Falls and filling Lake Kariba, the Zambezi River becomes a wide and game-rich floodplain with islands, lagoons and sandbanks. Lower Zambezi National Park is located between the rugged Zambezi escarpment and the mighty Zambezi River; with Mana Pools National Park, on the Zimbabwe side of the river, the whole area is a massive wildlife sanctuary of intense beauty.

What Will I See?

  • The Zambezi River teeming with hippos and crocs
  • Large herds of elephant and buffalo
  • Large population of lion and leopard
  • Over 300 bird species
  • Not the species diversity of other parks, but the setting is absolute paradise

What Can I Do?

  • Canoe safaris
  • Fish for tigerfish on the Zambezi River
  • Bird watching
  • Game drives
  • Walking safaris

When Should I Go?

The Park is only accessible during the dry months from April through November; game viewing improves as the land dries and animals gather at the river.
