Mana Pools National Park
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its intense natural beauty and abundant wildlife, Mana Pools is a spectacular park. After plunging over Victoria Falls and filling Lake Kariba, the Zambezi River opens up, becoming a fertile floodplain with four main ““pools” and several smaller pools. Set in the heart of the lush Zambezi Valley, the area boasts one of the highest concentrations of elephants and buffalo in Africa during the dry season.
What Will I See?
- The wide Zambezi River with lush islands and its banks teeming with wildlife
- Large population of hippos, crocs and fish
- Huge concentrations of big game during the dry season (June-October) including elephant, buffalo, antelope, lion and leopard

When Should I Go?
- Dry season: from June through October; large numbers of animals come to the river to drink and graze along the lush banks
- Rainy Season: from November through April; most animals move away from the river towards the escarpment. Weather is hot and humid with average temperatures of 82°F; additionally, most roads within the Park are closed but charter flights operate to airstrips
