In an unprecedented move, Travel Beyond is offering clients the opportunity to lose five pounds this summer without cutting carbs or committing to a cottage cheese diet. As an added bonus, losing the weight will even make a positive difference in the world.
Sound too good to be true? Well, it comes with a disclaimer. The weight you need to shed is from your luggage, not your waistline. But the rest—making a positive difference in the world—surely applies.
Pack for a Purpose is an admirable nonprofit organization that gives travelers a chance to help schools and community projects in the destinations they’re visiting. The concept is simple:
- Each school or community project lists the school supplies, medical devices or soccer balls they need on the Pack for a Purpose website, along with the hotel or lodge that accepts the donations.
- Travelers pack these requests—from pencils to flash drives, books to Band-Aids—in the extra space in their luggage, taking care to keep it under any airline requirements.
- At check-in, guests drop off their donations at the front desk, and the property takes care of the delivery.
The program is an easy way to make a positive contribution to the areas which provide us so much joy in visiting. And since guests leave the supplies behind, there’s plenty of room for new souvenirs on the return trip.
What will sparing five packing pounds give you room to pack? You could take 500 pencils, 5 deflated soccer balls with an inflation device or even a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and 500 Band-Aids.
Many of our favorite hotels, camps and lodges are participating in the program, but there are still properties who aren’t yet on the growing list. Check the Pack for a Purpose destination list to see if the property you’re visiting is included in the program.
As the Pack for a Purpose philosophy states, “There is need everywhere in the world.” Join Travel Beyond in giving back to the destinations that have boosted our spirits, captured our hearts and blessed us with beauty.
