Most Memorable Travel Experience
When I was in Marrakech, Morocco, we were hiking near the Atlas Mountains and a small nomad family invited us into their home for traditional mint tea. They showed us their farm, and their grandmother made us all homemade mint tea, showing us the traditional way of making it. We then learned that the offering of mint tea is a sign of welcoming and hospitality in Morocco. That’s when I realized why I love traveling so much: experiencing all different forms of hospitality around the world and knowing that we are all connected in that way.

In November of 2020, I traveled to the Maldives and Dubai for my honeymoon! It was the trip of a lifetime and one that I will always cherish. We started our adventure on a small private island resort in the Maldives called Vakkaru and immediately knew we would never want to leave. This place was exactly what you see in pictures and can’t believe are real – the most crystal clear and turquoise water I’ve ever seen in my life. It was ultimate relaxation and paradise at its finest. We did enjoy a few lazy afternoons on the beach, but managed to stay busy scuba diving, snorkeling right off our over-the-water villa (with a private pool!), and even playing a few rounds of tennis and badminton. I will never forget our first dive during which I came so close to a sea turtle that I could’ve touched it. We had breakfasts right on the beach with our toes in the sand and dinner at night was complete with a front row seat to spectacular sunsets. My husband and I were already talking about going back for an anniversary trip before we even left!
Our next stop was Dubai to explore the city and stretch our legs for a few days between the long haul flights. Never having traveled to Dubai before, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it is definitely worth a visit. We hit the ground running and headed to the desert immediately after arrival for sand boarding and a dune buggy excursion. We toured the tallest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa, where we also enjoyed a five star dinner at their restaurant located on the 123rd floor. The Old Dubai Tour was a highlight of our time in Dubai, during which we learned about the city’s history and visited one of the first townships. The cherry on top of our Dubai experience was meeting a Gentoo and two King penguins in person at Ski Dubai (located in the Mall of the Emirates), where they are working directly with organizations to protect penguins.
It was luxury, romance, stunning views, relaxation and activity all wrapped into one unforgettable trip. It unquestionably fit the bill for a perfect honeymoon.
