Day 3

Constantia

Today you will be met by your private guide for your tour of the Constantia Winelands. The historic valley, with vineyards clinging to the eastern slopes of the Constantiaberg Mountains, was home to 17th-century Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel’s wine farm. Its legendary dessert wines graced the tables of the European monarchy in the 18th century. There are now numerous cellars in this premier ward which continue the tradition of producing wines from classic European noble varieties. The area is celebrated for its Sauvignon Blancs, Semillons and Chardonnays, from the Steenberg, Constantia Uitsig and Buitenverwachting estates. However, wonderful Merlots, Cabernet, Shiraz and red blends in classic Bordeaux styles are also made at Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and High Constantia. The area’s famed signature wine is still the exquisite Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia.

Following your tour, you will be transferred back to the hotel to enjoy your evening at leisure.

Disembark in Pretoria to Johannesburg

After breakfast and a morning at leisure on the train, you will disembark at Pretoria Station. Upon arrival at the station, you will be met by a Travel Beyond representative for your tour of Johannesburg, Soweto, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial. Lunch will be on your own account.

This full day experience takes you across South Africa’s commercial and financial capital – Johannesburg. Aptly named “the City of Gold,” its origins stretch back to 1886, when gold was discovered in the area. Now the city is known amongst locals as Egoli, Jozi or Jo’burg and has a rich and vibrant past and present. Our route covers all the major points of interest, from Sandton in the north to Soweto in the south. You can expect to drive through Rosebank and Houghton, the latter being the site of the late Nelson Mandela’s home. In Braamfontein you will see the Constitutional Court of South Africa and further downtown the City Hall, Diagonal Street, Newtown and Nelson Mandela Bridge. At the iconic Carlton Centre, we see the city from the “Top of Africa” in the enclosed viewing deck 50 floors up. We continue past the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital and Regina Mundi Catholic church and then visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial before making our way to Vilakazi Street, Nelson Mandela’s former home and Bishop Desmond Tutu’s home.

Following your tour, you will be transferred to the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa. Enjoy the remainder of your evening at leisure.

Day 9

Victoria Falls

This morning after breakfast you will be met by a Travel Beyond representative and taken on a 25 minute scheduled helicopter excursion over Victoria Falls.

This ideal bird’s-eye aerial view of the Zambezi River, the Victoria Falls and the gorges can be viewed by light aircraft (fixed wing) or Bell helicopter (Jet Ranger – 4 passengers, Long Ranger – 6 passengers). View the Zambezi from the air in all its beauty as it flows to the Falls, where it throws up a cloud of spray that sometimes reaches 300 meters/0.2mi high. The excursion also gives you a better understanding of the zigzag gorge system and how it developed – it also ideally complements a ground tour of the Falls and its surrounding rainforest. Helicopter flights are weather-permitting. No age, weight or health requirements apply.

After your excursion, you will be transferred back to the hotel. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.
