Trip Extension

Not ready to return back to reality? This excursion is an example of an extension that can be added onto any India trip and start from either Mumbai or Delhi. They are not standalone itineraries, but rather an opportunity to add an extra experience focused on your own travel taste.

Day 1

Mumbai or Delhi to Kaziranga

This morning you will arrive at Guwahati airport from either Mumbai or Delhi. Upon arrival, you will be met by a Travel Beyond representative for your road transfer to Kaziranga National Park, famous as the only natural habitat of the Indian rhinoceros. The largest number of one-horned rhinoceros in the world roams its swamps, grasslands with tall thickets of elephant grass and areas of mixed deciduous and tropical semi-evergreen forest. It is home to a wide variety of other animals and birds, and the open vistas make it relatively easy to see many species of wildlife in a day.

As well as the Indian rhino, the park contains about 35 major mammals, including elephant, tiger, a small population of hoolock gibbon, capped langur, bristly hare, hog badger, otter, leopard, wild boar, sambar, swamp deer, hog deer, muntjac, water buffalo and gaur. Among the rich birdlife are a variety of indigenous species and thousands of migratory birds, seasonally attracted to the various water areas of the park from as far away as Siberia.

Upon arrival at Kaziranga, check into Diphlu River Lodge, where you will spend three nights. Enjoy the remainder of your evening at leisure.

Day 3

After breakfast, drive for about an hour to the old Silghat River Port by the Brahmaputra River for a dolphin boat safari.

A motorized country boat will first take you to Hatimura temple located on top of a hill. Sail downstream in a country boat to spot river dolphins at the confluence where the Bhorelli and Brahmaputra rivers meet. The endangered Gangetic dolphins are the National Aquatic Animal of India. After the boat ride, drive a short distance to visit a tea estate for lunch.

Post-lunch, drive to the Burapahar range of Kaziranga National Park for a jungle walk, accompanied by a forest ranger and naturalist. This range is comprised of thick forests and grassland. Sightings of the Malayan giant squirrel has been reported in this section of the park, and the other attractions are pied kingfishers, grey-headed canary flycatcher and many other birds as well as Asiatic water buffalos and the rhinos. There are plenty of butterflies also in this part of the park.

This evening, return to the lodge for dinner and enjoy the remainder of your evening at leisure.
