Day 3

Buenos Aires to Ushuaia

Embark National Geographic Endurance

Today you will be met for your private transfer to the Buenos Aires airport for your flight to Ushuaia.

Nestled between towering, ice-covered peaks and the frigid waters of the Beagle Channel, this stunning destination truly lives up to its nickname, “El Fin del Mundo” or “The End of the World.” You will visit Tierra del Fuego National Park, which is adorned with dense beech forests reminiscent of the ancient landscapes that once covered much of Antarctica millions of years ago.

As you cruise along the channel aboard a private catamaran, enjoy a delightful lunch while keeping an eye out for the abundant wildlife that calls this region home. Watch for playful South American sea lions basking on the rocks and elegant seabirds, such as the imperial cormorant, soaring above the waves. This experience promises to be a remarkable blend of breathtaking scenery and rich natural history!

After, you will be transferred to the pier to board the National Geographic Endurance, your home for the next ten days.

ABOUT NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ENDURANCE

The National Geographic Endurance honors explorer Ernest Shackleton and his Transantarctic Expedition. This ice-class vessel (PC5 Category A) allows you to venture where few can, with a patented X-Bow design that ensures a smooth, quiet ride. Carrying just 138 guests, it emphasizes intimate expedition experiences. The ship’s Scandinavian-inspired interiors feature large windows for stunning views, while outward-facing cabins feature large windows and are equipped with modern amenities, including climate control, expedition tools, rain showers, and luxury linens, ensuring comfort and adventure in equal measure. A highlight aboard is sleeping in one of the ship’s “igloos.” These domes are on the observation deck and are available to all guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

Day 4-5

At Sea

Crossing the Drake Passage

Both fierce and tranquil, this iconic 500-mile-wide strait separates South America from the Antarctic Peninsula. As the crossing begins, anticipation grows, with seabirds like the wandering albatross often soaring alongside you. With a little luck, you might even catch a glimpse of a pod of killer whales or rare dolphins.

During the voyage, take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the ship and prepare for the exciting adventures that lie ahead. Visit the Bridge, an ideal spot for wildlife spotting, or indulge in a relaxing massage to unwind. Attend an informative talk on the unique biology of penguins, or simply find a cozy chair in the observation lounge and gaze out at the rolling waves. Reflect on the rich history of this passage, named after the English privateer Francis Drake but first discovered by Spanish navigator Francisco de Hoces.

Every moment on this journey is a chance to immerse yourself in the stunning beauty and remarkable history of this iconic waterway.
