Elephant in Africa

My Favorite Hidden Gem

As an Africa Safari Specialist, I get asked loads of questions about where the best place to go on safari is. Anyone can Google safari destinations, and you will inevitably find lots of information about the Kruger National Park in South Africa, Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, or the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. However, what you may not find is that these areas can be considered high-tourism spots and, as a result, will draw more crowds. While these areas definitely produce a high density of wildlife and an unforgettable experience, I love to present options for my clients to mix in private safari parks as well.

Private parks vs. national parks can give you such a unique experience. These areas are not accessible to the general public, offering fewer crowds, a high density of wildlife, options for activities outside of the safari vehicle, and, in many cases, high-end accommodations. One of my absolute favorite parks that checks all of these boxes in Africa is the Singita Grumeti Reserve, which borders the Serengeti National Park.

Private Experience
Located on a 350,000-acre private concession adjacent to the Serengeti National Park, Singita Grumeti provides guests with the opportunity to enjoy one of Africa’s most iconic landscapes in seclusion. With only seven lodges in the park, all under the Singita portfolio, you will inevitably not run into many vehicles driving around.

Wildlife
The reserve is renowned for its diverse ecosystems, attracting a wide variety of wildlife, including predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as large herds of herbivores. Additionally, it offers a front-row seat to the Great Migration. The reserve is a key corridor where massive herds of wildebeest and zebras pass through, particularly during June and July. This event attracts numerous predators and creates dramatic wildlife interactions.
