Career History

I’ve worked for Outward Bound, AFS Intercultural Programs, Dominican University of CA, Study Abroad Italy, and Young Heroes. In my various positions and jobs, I have experience with international exchange, communication, experiential education, and have been fortunate to travel to some amazing and interesting destinations!

Where I’ve Lived Abroad

I studied in Florence, Italy during my junior year of college. I studied the local language and traveled within Italy from the cosmopolitan to the coastal cities and throughout Western Europe. I worked for Young Heroes helping keep orphans on their homesteads in Mbabane, Swaziland from 2006-2008. While living in Swaziland I had the opportunity to explore many of the surrounding areas from the South African coast to Mozambique to the hills of Lesotho and the other surrounding countries of Botswana and Namibia. These experiences living abroad have given me a unique set of diverse skills and the ability to think strategically across organizational levels. While working at Young Heroes, we collaborated with local businesses and other NGOs to increase sponsorships and help more orphans thrive with food, clothing and education.

My Most Memorable Travel Experience

There have been so many memorable travel experiences over the years, it’s hard to pick just one. While on a night safari in the Okavango Delta, I was completely mesmerized by the millions of stars and constellations that our guide was pointing out with a laser, I heard something. We pointed the spotlight in the direction of the noise. Headed our way was a mama hippo with her calf! We immediately jumped back in the safari vehicle and cruised back to camp where a fire was already lit. We had one more sundowner before securely zipping up our tents, not to venture back out until the morning! I also think about how infinitesimal I felt swimming near whale sharks just off the coast of Donsol, Philippines.

My Most Recent Trip

My most recent trip abroad was a fly-in fishing trip to Ontario, Canada with my dad, brother-in-law and nieces, where the walleye were plentiful. Prior to Canada, it was a trip to South Africa with my two kids with a layover in Ireland on the way and a layover in Italy on the return home. It’s a whole new adventure traveling abroad with kids. We luckily managed to have smooth transitions and wonderful experiences on safari seeing my children’s favorite animals – the giraffes and the lions. Many of the Cape Town restaurants and wineries are kid-friendly with playgrounds or grape juice tastings, dessert decorating and resident animals to keep them entertained.
