Day 1

Arrive Mumbai, India

Welcome to India! Upon arrival in Mumbai, you will be met for your private transfer to Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. You will enjoy three nights in a Luxury Grande Pool View Room. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

About Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai: Experience true grandeur at The Taj Mahal Palace, the iconic sea-facing landmark in Colaba, South Mumbai. This flagship Taj hotel offers you splendid views of the Arabian Sea and Gateway of India, alongside refined century-old hospitality. Day 2

Mumbai

This morning you will be met for your excursion to the Elephanta Caves with a private guide. Board your privately chartered boat en route to Elephanta Island, located about four miles from the city. The island was originally called Gharapuri, or “Fortress City,” and renamed Elephanta by the Portuguese who found a large stone elephant near the landing spot. Within the main rock-cut temple, probably dating from between 450 to 750AD, you will find large sculptured panels. One of the most interesting panels is the three-headed Shiva depicted as the Creator, the Preserver and the Destroyer. Another portrays God dancing the Tandava and thereby causing the world to shake.

Continue your sightseeing with a visit to Mumbai’s Prince of Wales Museum, followed by a stop at CST Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. This is a historic railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which serves as the headquarters of the Central Railways. The station was built in 1887 and is one of the busiest railway stations in India.

You will have lunch at Trishna Restaurant, a local seafood eatery and a Mumbai favorite.After, return to your hotel for some time for rest and relaxation.

Later this afternoon, you will be met by a private guide for your Mumbai Street Food Tour. Mumbai is famous across India for its outstanding street food, but discovering the best eateries in a big city is not always easy. This tour will introduce you to all the flavors the city has to offer, as your guide takes you through Mumbai’s two best street food areas. Start at the city’s most famous beach, Chowpatty, where you can try an array of Mumbai’s best vegetarian street food while you watch the sun set. Enjoy Indian classics such as dahi puri, pani puri and pav bhaji. Then, a short taxi ride will take you to the lively Mohommad Ali Road area. In this predominantly Muslim neighborhood you will experience the local culture and delicious food. In the bustling ali khao gaullis (eating lanes) you will find mainly non-vegetarian options such as chota kebabs and chicken tikka.

Upon completion of your tour, you will be returned to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of your evening at leisure, enjoying the comfort and amenities of the Taj Mahal Palace.

Day 3

Mumbai

Today you will be met by your private guide for your unique Local Transport Tour. On this tour, you will learn about the realities of the working class in Mumbai by using the city’s varied modes of transportation: ride the famous suburban train, hop on a classic red bus, cruise around town in a typical black and yellow taxi and watch as millions of Mumbai’s workers head out for their day. This tour takes you beyond the typical tourist sites! You will see different markets and the learn about the world famous Dabbawallahs, the intricate lunch delivery system of Mumbai’s working class. Gain a better understanding of the struggles and challenges felt by this group – as well as their unconquerable spirit. At the end of the tour you will have a small tiffin, or lunchbox, snack delivered by a dabbawallah service.

Return to the hotel for time to relax by the pool or enjoy lunch. Ten of the city’s most acclaimed restaurants and bars, renowned for delectable cuisines from India, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, are located on site.

Day 4

Mumbai to Jaipur

This morning you will be met for your private transfer to the Mumbai airport for your commercial flight to Jaipur.

Upon arrival in Jaipur, you will be met for your private transfer to Rambagh Palace, Jaipur. You will enjoy three nights in a Palace Room. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

About Rambagh Palace, Jaipur: Rambagh Palace, Jaipur has stepped gracefully through many royal transitions—from the home of the queen’s favorite handmaiden, to the royal guesthouse and hunting lodge, and later as the residence of the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. Today, this jewel in the Taj’s crown retains its elaborate splendor, extravagantly decorated with hand-carved marble jalis, or latticework, sandstone balustrades, cupolas and chattris, or cenotaphs, and elaborate Mughal Gardens. Over the years, Rambagh Palace, Jaipur has played host to several illustrious guests, including Prince Charles and Jacqueline Kennedy.

Day 5

Jaipur

This morning you will be met by your private guide for your Wonders of Pink City Tour. The walled city of Jaipur is one of the finest examples of Indian city planning. Not a single aspect of design has been overlooked, from its uniform pink stucco historic buildings, to the vibrant markets laid strategically on straight wide roads, to grand Palaces loaded with rare treasure and elaborate art work. Visit City Palace, the residence of the present Royal family. The family has opened their gates to visitors and converted part of the palace into a museum, showcasing their private collections and rare treasures. Visit the Jantar Mantar (Observatory) which boasts the largest sun dial in the world. You will also enjoy walking tour, allowing you to explore Jaipur’s architecture, view a variety of historic landmarks and buildings, interact with the locals and witness some of Jaipur’s famous art and crafts.

Return to the hotel for lunch and time to relax by one of the pools or perhaps participate in a yoga class.

Later this afternoon, you will be met by your private guide for your Bazaars, Crafts & Cuisine walking tour. Jaipur offers a dazzling immersion into the riches of traditional India. Since its foundation in 1727, royal family and nobles of Jaipur had been patronizing various craftsmen and artisans in the city. Many of the traditional methods continue today, making modern-day Jaipur a great place to see these valuable and highly prized items. Observe local artisans such as silversmiths and bangle makers at work. Mingle and talk with locals while sampling some of the regions culinary delights. Try Samosa Kachori, Kulfi and Lassi and sample sweets from some of the city’s most popular Mithai Walas. Meet a local family and experience the warm Indian hospitality. It’s a great way to explore Jaipur like locals do and learn about rich art traditions of this fascinating city.

Day 6

Jaipur

This morning you will be met by your private guide for your Gems of Jaipur tour. Today’s tour takes you to the magnificent Amber Fort, the most iconic monument of Jaipur. You will travel by jeep to the top of the hill where the fort is situated. Housing palaces, halls, gardens, and temples, the grandeur of this historic stop is not to be missed!

After your visit to Amber Fort, you will embark on a fun Cycle Rickshaw tour, offering you insights on the socio-economic aspects of the city. Every lane in the walled city has something interesting to offer, and the relaxed Rickshaw ride is the best way to explore the city like the locals do.

After your tour, return to your hotel for lunch and time to relax. You may want to indulge a treatment at the Taj’s Jiva Grande Spa, where you will be enveloped in ancient wellness therapies.

This evening, you will be met for your private transfer to 1135 AD restaurant. The name of this fine dining restaurant is derived from the year in which the Kacchawaha clan founded the dynasty. During that time, the royal cooks working in the palaces generally did not share their recipes. Some instructions and skills were passed on to their descendants and the chef uses these anecdotes to bring forth the true culinary valour of the ‘Rajput Kingdom.’

Day 7

Jaipur to Jodhpur

Today you will be met for your private road transfer to Jodhpur (approx. drive time 5-6 hours). Upon arrival in Jodhpur, you will be transferred to Umaid Bhawan Palace, where you will spend two nights in a Palace Room.

Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure, enjoying the amenities of your beautiful hotel. Set amid 26 acres of lush gardens, you will enjoy wandering in this Indian paradise.

This evening, you will be met by your private guide for a walking tour of Old Jodhpur’s bustling bazaar. You will see the wholesale grain market, the bamboo market, spice sellers, colorful local grocery shops, milk and local cheese stalls, tea shops, fabric and jewelry shops, agricultural implements, fruits, vegetables, local beauty products…the list is endless! Each little shop presents interesting insights about life in this region of India. Colorfully dressed men and women from nearby rural areas flock to this market for their needs, so this walk also provides great opportunities for seeing different communities that make up the area.

About Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur: Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur is a magnificent piece of Rajasthan’s heritage, and a symbol of new Jodhpur. Home of the former Jodhpur royal family, and currently the world’s sixth-largest private residence, the palace has one thing in common with the iconic Taj Mahal at Agra: the palm court marble used in its construction. Perched on Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur inspires with exotic views of the historical Blue City, vast sand dunes, and intimidating Mehrangarh Fort.

Day 8

Jodhpur

Today you will be met by your private guide for your Blue City Revealed tour. Your tour starts with a visit to the Mehrangarh Fort, situated on a low sandstone Hill, including Moti-Mahal and Phool Mahal. Visit Jaswant Thada, an imposing Marble Memoriam built in 1899. Next, embark on a walking tour of Jodhpur and experience opportunities to meet the locals, sample food, and witness artisans at work. This is a great way to feel the pulse of this vibrant city.

Return to the hotel for time to relax or enjoy lunch. You may want to pamper yourself with rejuvenating treatments and therapies at the Jiva Grande Spa.

Later this afternoon, you will be met for your visit to Bishnoi Village. The Bishnois are a community of Rajasthan who are famous for their rich cultural Rajasthani life and their intense love for nature and animals. Your visit to the village will give you a glimpse of the rich cultural life of Bishnois and a taste of true Rajasthan. Bishnois are strong lovers of wild animals. It is because of their protection that in Bishnoi dominated areas, deer and antelope (such as blue bulls, black bucks, chinkaras and chowsinghas) are seen grazing peacefully in their fields. The Bishnois protect their forests and have a strict prohibition on the felling of trees. For this reason, unlike most Hindu communities, Bishnois bury their dead instead of using their wood in cremation fires.

Jodhpur to Udaipur

About Taj Lake Palace: Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur is arguably the most romantic hotel in the world. The palace was built in 1746 as a ‘pleasure palace’ of Maharana Jagat Singh II. Originally named Jag Niwas, the property is now the majestic and magnificent Taj Lake Palace of Udaipur. Restored to its pristine glory, this spectacular palace is located on an island in the midst of Lake Pichola. Every room features breathtaking views of the neighboring City Palace, Aravalli Hills, Machla Magra Hills and Jag Mandir.

Day 10

Udaipur

This morning, you will be met by your private guide for your sightseeing tour of Udaipur. Visit Udaipur’s most iconic spot, the City Palace. With its marble and granite walls laden with miniature paintings, and decorated with tiles, glasswork and mirrors, the complex offers a great insight into the lives of the royalties. After, you will visit the famous Jagdish Temple, a 16th century Vishu Temple full of fine stone sculptures. You will have the chance to meet with local artisans engaged in jewelry making, pottery and bamboo crafts. Learn about the local traditions and customs related to their living habits and religious beliefs.

Return to the hotel for time to relax by the pool, treat yourself to a spa treatment or enjoy lunch.

This evening, you will visit Jag Mandir, a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola. Also referred to as the ʺLake Garden Palace,” Jag Mandir is located in Udaipur city. Its construction is credited to three Maharanas of the Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar kingdom. The construction of the palace was started in 1551 by Maharana Amar Singh, continued by Maharana Karan Singh (1620–1628) and finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I (1628–1652). It is named as ʺJagat Mandir” in honor of the last named Maharana Jagat Singh. The royal family once used the palace as a summer resort and as a place to hold parties. On two separate occasions, the palace was used as a refuge for asylum seekers.

The Old City of Udaipur is dotted with numerous historic temples, havelis, or royal mansions, and baoris, or step wells. Your tour will bring you up close to the diverse culture, traditions, craftsmanship of the city by discovering the hidden corners of this romantic city. You will have the chance to meet with local artisans engaged in jewelry making, pottery and bamboo crafts. Learn about the local traditions and customs related to their living habits and religious beliefs.

Upon completion of your tour, you will be returned to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of your day by relaxing at the Taj Lake Palace or exploring Udaipur. Known as the Venice of the East, the city of Udaipur, with its elaborate palaces, serene lakes, exotic temples and resplendent gardens, has a lot to offer.

Udaipur to Delhi

Today you will be met for your private transfer to the Udaipur Airport for your commercial flight to Delhi.

Upon arrival, you will be met for your private transfer to Taj Diplomatic Enclave, New Delhi. You will stay for two nights in a Luxury Room.

Day 13

Delhi

This morning you will be met by your private guide for your Walled City of Old Delhi tour, where you will witness the Mughal Empire’s times of grandeur – and its subsequent ruin. Discover hidden gems while exploring the narrow alleys and 350-yr old markets of the city built at the pinnacle of Mughal Empire, India’s most glorious monarchy. Colorful, vibrant, noisy and chaotic are words that best describe what many call Old Delhi, the 7th city of Delhi, which was built by the mighty Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Visit India’s second largest and most aesthetically designed Mosque, the Jama Masjid. Next, walk through streets and markets and savor the fragrances of the boisterous spice markets, one of Asia’s largest markets. Be dazzled by the glitter of India’s largest jewelry markets and get a glimpse of the once-glorious havelis, or royal mansions, of Old Delhi. You will also the opportunity to enjoy a rickshaw ride through the old city market.

Enjoy a break for lunch before continuing to a tour of New Delhi. Ironically, the city named New Delhi offers more historical sites than the Old Delhi. The city was founded by the imperial British government in 1911 as they moved their capital from Kolkata (once called Calcutta). Visit Humayun’s Tomb and take a drive along the ceremonial avenue of Rajpath. Pass the imposing India Gate, Parliament House, the President’s Residence and the Diplomatic Enclave.
