Day 1

Arrive Johannesburg, South Africa

Welcome to South Africa! Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be escorted to the InterContinental Hotel, located just across the street from airport. Enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 2

 Johannesburg, South Africa to Livingstone, Zambia

Today after breakfast, you will be escorted back to the Johannesburg Airport for your flight to Livingstone, Zambia. Upon arrival in Livingstone you will be met for your transfer to Thorntree River Lodge where you will spend two nights.

Beautifully designed Thorntree River Lodge is set on the banks of the glorious Zambezi River in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. It is the perfect respite, as you enjoy a drink while watching an exquisite African sunset. Swap stories with your  guides and fellow travelers around the fire before enjoying the African-inspired fine-dining experience.

Day 3

 

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

Thorntree River Lodge is situated in Zambia’s Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, just a short distance from Livingstone and the famous Victoria Falls. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Falls are one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and are a must see while in the area. Visit this spectacle from the Zambian side of the river and experience the thrill of standing on Knife’s Edge Bridge while the water cascades in front of you.

 

Being located on the mighty Zambezi River means that Thorntree River Lodge is ideal for sunset cruises. This afternoon you will embark on the section of river flowing past the lodge. It is quiet and picturesque as you take in the breathtaking sunsets from the river.

Day 4

 Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Zambia to MalaMala Game Reserve, South Africa

This morning after an early game activity and brunch, you will be transferred to the Livingstone Airport for your flight to Kruger National Park, South Africa. Upon arrival, you will be met for your transfer to MalaMala Camp, where you will stay for three nights.

MalaMala Camp is the oldest private game reserve in South Africa and the first to
make the transition from hunting to photographic safaris. It is the blueprint on which the South African safari
industry was built. MalaMala is a true oasis in the middle of the bush!

Days 5-6

MalaMala Game Reserve

On safari! Enjoy twice-daily game drives in the MalaMala Game Reserve, one of the largest, private Big Five reserves in South Africa. At 33,000 acres, MalaMala shares a 12-mile unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve.

Day 7

MalaMala Game Reserve to Phinda Private Game Reserve

This morning after an early game activity and brunch, you will transfer to the airport for your flight to Phinda Private Game Reserve. Upon arrival you will be met by a lodge representative and transferred to Phinda Mountain Lodge where you will spend three nights, including all meals. This afternoon, meet your guide and the other guests for an afternoon game drive.

Days 8-9

Phinda Private Game Reserve

On safari! Enjoy morning and afternoon shared game activities. Phinda offers many activities, including game drives, nature walks, local Zulu village tours and black rhino tracking!

Perched on a dramatic hill top with wraparound views of the spectacular Ubombo mountain range, and the surrounding Zululand bush, Phinda Mountain Lodge is a dramatic safari destination. Showcasing one of the continent’s finest game viewing experiences, it is home to Africa’s Big Five and 436 bird species. It is particularly well known for close-up sightings of the elegant yet elusive cheetah, as well as the rare black rhino.

Day 10

Phinda Private Game Reserve to Franschhoek

This morning after an early game activity and brunch, you will be transferred to the Durban Airport for your commercial flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival in Cape Town, you will be met for your private transfer to Leeu Estates in Franschhoek, where you will spend two nights, including breakfast daily. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

Leeu Estates is an exclusive five-star property surrounded by 168 acres of vineyards, landscaped gardens and indigenous vegetation. Located between the mountainside and river, just minutes away from the village of Franschhoek, it is an ideal setting, offering superb comfort, fine dining and platinum service.

Day 11

Franschhoek

This morning you will be met in the lobby by your guide for your private full day Winelands Tour, including lunch, entrance to the Huguenot Museum and three wine tastings.

Indulge in a full day in the spectacular Cape Winelands. The estates visited will vary according to your preferences, but the tour includes the region’s major wine producing areas and visits some beautiful wine estates for tastings of high quality vintages. Nestled in a valley where the French Huguenots settled in 1688, Franschhoek is a delight for antique lovers and gastronomes (the town boasts some world-famous eateries). South Africa’s second-oldest town, Stellenbosch provides another glimpse of classic 17th and 18th century Cape style, with a chance to browse quaint Dorp Street, visit the museum or explore the many galleries and shops of this university town.

Franschhoek to Cape Town

This morning you will be met for your private road transfer to Cape Town. En route, you enjoy a tour of the Cape Peninsula.

Drive along the rocky Atlantic seaboard, passing Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton. Bakoven and Llandudno, with their ghostly shipwrecks, are also fantastic sights on the way to the fishing village of Hout Bay, where you will board a boat to visit the Cape Fur Seal colony on Duiker Island.

Navigate the 114 curves and nearly 2,000ft heights of Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s most spectacular passes, on your way to explore the Cape of Good Hope. This section of the Table Mountain National Park is home to fabulous birds and distinctive fauna, including the Cape mountain zebra, bontebok and the charismatic Cape baboon. Climb (or ride the world’s first environmentally friendly funicular) to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse to capture the magical vistas of False Bay.

After lunch at a top restaurant, you will visit Boulders Beach to see the African Penguin colony. Then head back through the naval village of Simonstown and over scenic Boyes Drive, taking in the views of the fishing harbor at Kalk Bay and the seaside havens of St James and Muizenberg.

Upon completion of your tour, you will be transferred to The Silo Hotel where you will spend three nights, including breakfast daily. Enjoy your evening at leisure. You may want to explore the V&A Waterfront with its trendy shops, restaurants and bars.

Day 13

Cape Town

This morning you will be met by your private guide for your half day City and Table Mountain Tour, including lunch.

The first stop is Table Mountain’s Lower Cableway Station, for a 5 minute revolving cable car ride to the top, 3,500ft above sea level. Table Mountain affords bird’s-eye views of both the city and Peninsula, as you explore its summit. Return to the city via the old Cape Malay Quarter, for a walk through the Company’s Garden, a fresh produce garden for ships and locals in the mid-17th century, and now home to the South African Museum, Houses of Parliament, National Gallery and St. George’s Cathedral. Stroll through the city to Greenmarket Square, where you can browse the bustling market stalls for beautiful and unique African mementos. From there drive to the Castle of Good Hope, South Africa’s oldest building, with its formidable collection of Old Cape paintings. Take in the nearby Grand Parade, where Nelson Mandela addressed the nation on his release in 1990, and then move on to the District Six Museum, which showcases the colorful life of this legendary suburb and the forced relocation of its residents during the Apartheid era.

Following your tour, you will be transferred back to the hotel. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.

Cape Town

Today you will have the day at leisure to explore Cape Town! Enjoy your final day in Africa exploring this beautiful oceanfront city.

Depart Africa

Today you will bid farewell to Africa. You will be met for your private transfer to the Cape Town Airport for your onward flights home.
