Day 1

Arrive Novo Airao, Brazil

Welcome to Brazil!

Upon arrival in Manaus, make your way to the arrivals hall. You will be met by a lodge representative for your private transfer to Anavilhanas Lodge, where accommodations will be reserved for three nights.

Anavilhanas Lodge is a small jungle hotel, located on the banks of the Negro River and opposite the Anavilhanas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with more than 1,350 square miles of preserved forest. Immerse yourself in nature from the swimming pools overlooking the Anavilhanas Archipelago, at the floating bar with your favorite drink in hand, in the massage room surrounded by the forest, or in the viewpoint facing the immensity of the green and the waters. Days 2-3

Novo Airao

Spend your days enjoying the activities on offer. All meals will be served at the lodge. Some options are as follows:

  • Visit the local community: This is a unique opportunity to discover how the riverside communities live, using activities such as fishing, handicrafts and agriculture. Community residents lead the tours, which are full of stories and emotion.
  • Learn and practice bow & arrow: Technique, concentration and fun describe this experience with original artifacts from the Waimiri-Atroari ethnic group.
  • Sunrise Contemplation: Embark on a thrilling ride towards the spectacle of colors that form in the Amazonian sky with the first rays of sunlight.
  • Recreational fishing: Take a fishing trip through the region’s igarapés, where you’ll have the chance to hook some piranhas and other species while enjoying the surrounding scenery. During dry periods, recreational fishing is replaced by a trail through the igapó forest.
  • Anavilhanas Archipelago Tour looking for pink dolphins: Embark on an adventure through the infinity of canals, lakes and islands that make up one of the largest river archipelagos in the world. Along the way, be on the lookout for pink river dolphins!
  • Dryland Forest Hike: Take a very special walk alongside someone who knows every secret of the forest. Trees, fruit, birds, ants: at every step, a new story.
  • Canoe through the creeks and the flooded forest: An immersion in the flooded forest aboard caboclo canoes to listen to the symphony of the forest, and to appreciate the landscape of the igapós and infinity of reflections that form when river levels are high. Magical and unforgettable!
  • Night focus: In the dead of night, under the glow of the stars and the symphony of the forest, the jungle becomes even more special. Take to the water in search of birds, snakes, sloths and alligators.

Day 4

Novo Airao to Rio de Janeiro

This morning you will have a private transfer to the Manaus Airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro.

Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, make your way to the arrivals hall where you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to Belmond Copacabana Palace. Accommodations will be reserved for two nights.

An art deco masterpiece, Belmond Copacabana Palace is a crown jewel on the world’s most iconic beach. Since its doors opened in 1923, this landmark hotel has entertained the rich and the famous. A hive of activity, this is the spot to mix with Brazil’s elite over caipirinhas.

Later, you will be met by your private guide and driver for your Sugarloaf Sunset experience.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: The trademark of Rio de Janeiro, Sugar Loaf Mountain (12,99ft) has a privileged location. Ascend by cable car with views of the entire Guanabara Bay, Corcovado and Rio-Niteroi Bridge. As you near the top, you can see the beach of Copacabana, the Santa Cruz Fortress and Niterói. Day 5

Rio de Janeiro

This morning you will be met by your private guide and driver for your full-day Rio city tour.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Visit Christ the Redeemer on top of Corcovado Mountain. This is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, with a height of 124ft. Board a centenarian eco-friendly electric train and wind through the well-preserved Atlantic forest that is part of the Tijuca National Park. Upon reaching the top and at the foot of Cristo Redentor, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

Continue to Santa Teresa, an old neighborhood in the hills of Rio de Janeiro. Stop for lunch with lovely views over the bay far below, before exploring the neighborhood. Santa Teresa seems to have stopped in time. Known for its historical buildings from 1750 and for the French architecture inspired by that time, it was where the old carioca aristocracy lived. This charming area if home to many local artists who exhibit their arts, including the colorful Selaron Staircase.

Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival is the biggest and the most famous event in Brazil. There are over 90 samba schools and thousands of professionals involved, including musicians, choreographers, dancers, craftsmen, Samba Masters and producers. On this tour you will experience the backstage at one of the twelve samba schools in the “premier league.” During the visit you can also learn a little about the samba history, taste a caipirinha, and don a traditional costume.

Day 6

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Puerto Iguazu, Argentina

This morning you will be met for your private transfer to the Rio de Janeiro airport for your flight to Foz do Iguacu. Upon arrival into Iguacu, you will be met by your private guide for your half-day tour of the Brazilian side of the Falls, including a scenic helicopter flight.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: From its source in Brazil, the Iguaçu River grows into a winding course of more than 300 miles before emptying into the Paraná River and culminating in the spectacular Iguaçu Falls, a 1.5-mile-wide spectacle with more than 200 drops. The largest drop is dauntingly known locally as the “Devil’s Throat,” where the water plummets more than 2,230 feet, exploding onto the rocks below in a haze of fine mist. After exploring the national park on a series of catwalks, enjoy the thrill of a 10-minute helicopter flight over the falls! Take in aerial views of both the Brazilian and Argentinian sides, including Devil’s Throat, San Martin Island and San Martin Waterfall. This aerial view will open your eyes to the sheer immensity of the world’s largest system of cataracts.

Following your tour, you will be transferred to the Gran Melia, across the border in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina.

Day 7

Puerto Iguazu

This morning you will be met by your private guide for you full-day tour of the Argentina side of the Falls, including shared navigation.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: The Iguazú Falls are an extraordinary sight. It is said that Eleanor Roosevelt exclaimed: ‘Poor Niagara!’ when she saw the broad, tranquil river tumbling into the immense chasm of the Devil’s Throat, surrounded by the emerald colors of the subtropical rainforest below, where butterflies dance and birds flit and dive.

The Argentine side of Iguazú brings you in direct contact with the immense power of this UNESCO World Heritage site. With well-constructed metal and wooden walkways, you can walk through the rainforest, across the rushing Rio Iguazú, and stand in awe at viewpoints right on the edge of the precipice. Visit the Upper Circuit to see the cascades from above, and the Lower Circuit with sweeping views across the expanse of cataracts. Along the way, you will also find several waterfalls in the midst of the rich green tropical forest.

You will also have the opportunity to take a shared boat ride to the face of Devil’s Throat! Start with jeep ride through the rainforest to the Puerto Macuco dock at the Iguazu River, where you will board a motorboat specially designed for this type of navigation. Take an exciting ride up the rapids to the majestic Devils Throat, where you can truly appreciate the volume and immensity of this massive cataract. Be prepared to get soaked from the spray!

Day 8

Puerto Iguazu to Buenos Aires

Today you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to the Iguazu Airport for your flight to Buenos Aires.

Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, you will be met by your private guide for your Recoleta Walking Tour.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Explore the southern neighborhoods of one of the world’s most exciting capitals. You will begin at Plaza de Mayo. Named in commemoration of the revolution, the plaza has been a key to Argentine history and witnessed some of its most defining moments. Next, head to San Telmo, the oldest neighborhood in Buenos Aires. With a bohemian charm, it still maintains much of its original architecture, with historic mansions and cobbled streets lined with antique stores, coffee houses, and trendy restaurants and bars. Continue to the old port of La Boca, strolling through the famous Caminito.

The area’s colorful houses are made of wood and tin with iron balconies, typical of the dwellings built by immigrants from the late 19th century. Harsh conditions for the working classes in the early 20th century forged new customs and social behavior, leading to an explosion of tango, poetry, and theatrics as well as an infinite passion for football, still strongly ingrained to the present day. Last but not least is Puerto Madero. Buenos Aires to El Calafate

Today you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to the Buenos Aires Domestic Airport for your flight to El Calafate.

Upon arrival in El Calafate, make your way to the arrivals hall where you will be met by a lodge representative for your shared transfer to EOLO – Patagonia’s Spirit. Accommodations will be reserved for two nights.

Day 11

El Calafate

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Walk on ice and explore the surface of the Perito Moreno Glacier and its fascinating landscape with crevasses, unique ice formations, and bright turquoise ponds. The day begins with a scenic transfer along the picturesque shores of Lake Argentino. Upon reaching the port, a short boat ride awaits, taking you close to the glacier’s southern wall. Here, you’ll be greeted by local expert guides who will lead you through a forested path to the glacier’s edge.

After securely fastening your crampons, the real adventure begins! This one-and-a-half-hour mini trek unfolds across the glacier’s frozen terrain, offering a truly spectacular experience that showcases the grandeur of Perito Moreno. Following the ice trekking, walk back through the forest to a designated picnic area to enjoy a box lunch before hopping back on the boat and returning to the port. Your guide will be waiting to take you to the balconies that surround the Perito Moreno Glacier. Before your transfer back to El Calafate, enjoy some free time to take in the spectacular views of the glacier from the numerous walkways. Enjoy time to explore independently and appreciate the glacier from different angles and heights.

This morning after breakfast and checkout, you will be met for your private transfer to Puerto Natales Airport for your flight to Santiago.

Upon arrival in Santiago, make your way to the arrivals hall where you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to VIK Chile Vineyard. Accommodations will be reserved for two nights.

Upon arrival, make your way to the arrivals hall where you will be met by your private guide and driver. En route to this evening’s accommodations, you will enjoy a visit to the renowned Museo Larco.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Visit Museo Larco, considered one of the world’s 10 best, where you will learn more about the mesmerizing history of ancient Peru. Housed in an 18th-century mansion and surrounded by beautiful gardens, the museum boasts an extensive and fascinating collection of pre-Columbian artifacts.

Following your tour, you will be transferred to Hotel B where reservations will be reserved for two nights.

Beautiful Hotel B originally served as a seaside retreat of President Augusto Leguia in the 1920s. Today it is situated in Barranco, one of Lima’s most vibrant neighborhoods and home to many of Peru’s best-known artists, musicians, designers and photographers. Day 19

Lima

This morning you will be met by your private guide and driver for your half-day Lima City Tour.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Get to know the most iconic sights of Peru’s capital city. Lima’s Plaza de Armas is located in the historic center of Lima and is surrounded by some of the city’s most important buildings. From here, you will visit the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, and the Municipal Palace. The architecture here remains largely the same as when Lima was founded, complete with a beautiful fountain in the square.

Late this afternoon, you will be met by your private guide and driver for your Lima Food tour, including dinner.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Kick the night off by enjoying a Peru food tour that starts with a swanky beachfront cocktail at sunset accompanied by a fusion of flavors representing Lima’s traditions. Head up the cliffs and into the past as you tuck into an array of delicious Peruvian dishes at the famous Huaca Pucllana restaurant surrounded by spectacular views of pre-Incan ruins. Here you’ll try the best of the chef’s take on Peruvian recipes with a specially designed menu. We will then head to super secret gourmet establishment in Miraflores where you’ll try your hand at an out-of-the-ordinary Peruvian recipe led by an up-and-coming culinary rock star. Surrounded by color and culture, we will lose ourselves in the culinary world with a creative and exclusive menu accompanied by a delectable dessert. Finally, take a nighttime stroll accompanied by a sweet bite around the bohemian Barranco neighborhood. You’ll get much more than a feel for Peruvian culture on this four-stop progressive tour through Miraflores and Barranco!

Day 20

Lima to the Sacred Valley

Today you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to the Lima Airport for your flight to Cusco.

Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be met by your private guide and driver for your to the Sacred Valley, including lunch and visits en route. Your guide will accompany you on all of your scheduled excursions until you depart from Cusco.

TRANSFER DESCRIPTION: You will travel through a spectacular panorama of patchwork fields en route to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas.” The route includes picturesque Andean towns, agricultural terraces and archaeological sites. The mild climate and the varied and dramatic scenery of snow-capped mountains, flowering meadows, lush green hills and spectacular flora and fauna make the Sacred Valley a prime adventure destination in South America. Stop at Awanacancha for a chance to see the iconic llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and guanacos of the Andes, and learn how their wool is turned into beautiful and useful wares. Visit Pisac and experience the sights and sounds of the town’s famous market, which boasts a variety of handicrafts and fresh produce. Afterward, continue to the Pisac ruins in the hillside overlooking town and wander the maze of trails through the complex while being introduced to the Inca marvels of this region.

Sacred Valley

Today you will be met by your private guide and driver for your full-day tour of the fascinating highlights of the Sacred Valley.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Explore the ancient salt pools of Maras. Originally mined by the Incans, these pools are now individually owned and tended by the local people. The solid salt is granulated and treated with iodine, then packed in sacks and sent to the region’s markets.

Marvel at the fascinating archaeological site of Moray, where you will find circular terraces descending to about 100 ft. The difference in average annual temperature between the top and the bottom is almost 60°F. In these formations, nature has created environmental conditions or microclimates that, in modern times, people use create in greenhouses or hothouses.

After a picnic lunch continue to Ollantaytambo, a charming village located at the western end of the Sacred Valley that has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning.

The town is divided in canchas, or blocks, which are almost entirely intact. Each cancha has only one entrance (usually a huge stone doorway), which leads into a central courtyard.

You will visit the Inca ruins situated on a hilltop landscape with surrounding terracing and with cyclopean rock carvings. From the hilltop there is an extraordinary view of the village below and the surrounding countryside.

Day 22

Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu

This morning you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to Ollantaytambo. Here, you will begin your journey to Machu Picchu aboard the Vistadome train.

TRAIN DESCRIPTION: As the name suggests, this train offers its passengers picturesque views though its panoramic windows, connecting you with nature like no other experience. Gaze at the bountiful scenery that surrounds you as you traverse the Sacred Valley. Whether you capture this experience mentally or by photo, this scenic adventure will leave a lasting and memorable impression.

TREK DESCRIPTION: You will disembark the train at Kilometer 104 and begin your approximately six-hour trek to Machu Picchu (length: 7.5mi; altitude up to 8,760ft).

Visit the Chachabamba ruins and head to Wiñay Wayna, an important spiritual site. The trail cuts across the ridge above Machu Picchu and you will reach the Sun Gate, Intipunku, for fabulous views of the citadel. It is the most exquisite way to see Machu Picchu for the first time.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: With an early departure from your hotel, wind your way up the road to begin your exploration at Saqsaywaman; a vast Incan fortress built on three platforms, overlooking the city of Cusco. From here, continue to Qenqo, an ancient site of worship with a high rock carved into the shape of a Puma, which dominates a series of canals and passageways painted with animals. Next, continue uphill to reach Puka-Pukara and Tambomachay, more spectacular sites with ruins and Inca baths.

Returning back down to Cusco, visit the city’s main sites: The Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Inca Walls with the iconic 12 angled stone, and the Temple of the Sun (Koricancha) inside the Santo Domingo Temple.

This morning after breakfast, you will be met by your private guide and driver for your Quito city tour, including lunch.

TOUR DESCRIPTION: Begin the day with a visit to the Intinan Equator Museum, where you can stand with one foot in each hemisphere, and participate in interactive demonstrations to show how things behave differently from one side of the line to the other, and along the line itself. Next, head to the Panecillo, perched on a hill with 360 degree views of the city and surrounding Andes Mountains. Wander Quito’s historic center to view the colonial architecture, and visit La Compañia church, an icon of the baroque style in Ecuador. Continue to one of the best chocolate producers in the city for a tasting like no other. Ecuador has arguably the best cacao beans in the world, and this fun workshop allows you to see the process from bean to bar, with some delicious samples along the way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Day 27

Quito to the Galapagos Islands

This morning you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to the Quito Airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands.

Upon arrival you will pass through entry formalities and make your way outside, where your guide will be waiting. Join fellow passengers for your transfer to the Elite, which will be your home for next four nights.

This afternoon, Elite sets off to Bachas Beach. A beautiful white-sand beach on which the remnants of a rusted barge, thought to have been abandoned by the Americans during WWI, can be seen. It is a popular nesting site for turtles, so if you go for a snorkel, you might find yourself sharing the water with these wonderful creatures. The beach is also full of vibrant Sally Lightfoot and hermit crabs, and elegant pink flamingos that frequent the saltwater pond located just behind the beach.

Days 28

The Galapagos Islands

AM: El Barranco (Prince Philip’s Steps), Genovesa Island

Begin your expedition at the bottom of the rocky stairway where you may be lucky enough to spot a small colony of seals. As you ascend the steep steps up the 82-foot cliff face, be sure to look out for the sea life nestled in the crevices and watch the flocks of storm petrels and Galapagos doves. Catch your breath at the top and take in the dramatic view before continuing along a rocky lava plateau that is a popular nesting spot for red-footed boobies and frigates. During this easy stroll you will cross a small Scalesia forest, habitat of the shorteared owl.

PM: Darwin Bay, Genovesa Island

Arrive at this horse-shoe shaped island and step ashore the white sand and coral beach that was formed by a submerged volcanic crater. This is an ideal place to snorkel in calm, sheltered waters amongst hammerhead sharks, rays and a plethora of colorful reef fish. A short trail leads past a tidal lagoon and mangroves, home to a variety of land bird species. Colonies of the great frigatebirds are found along the beach. Males exhibit their red balloon pouch to females in hope of a attracting a match. Red-footed boobies nest in the trees, differentiating them from the booby species which nest on the ground. The top of the craggy hill provides the perfect viewpoint to pause and look down over the bay below.

The Galapagos Islands

AM: Espumilla Beach & Buccaneer Cove, Santiago Island

The island name, Espumilla, translates to “meringue”, referring to the dream-like trail of foam left by the waves that lap this picturesque white sand beach. Here you will encounter an abundance of the brightly colored Sally Lightfoot crabs, which attract predatory birds such as hawks, herons and pelicans. This peaceful setting on the northern coast of Santiago island provides an unmissable opportunity for snorkeling and swimming among a wide variety of marine life, including species of octopus, eels and sharks. Buccaneer Cove was frequented over the centuries by pirates, buccaneers and whalers. Now, it is an important nesting site for turtles, and is also popular with sea lions and stingrays. Intriguing formations in the rocks, caused by erosion, can also be observed.

Puerto Egas was once the site of a salt mine, but now this impressive black sand beach is an excellent location for snorkeling and observing shorebirds, Sally Lightfoot crabs and marine iguanas. A stroll along the wide trails inland leads you past tidal pools and rocky volcanic formations, known as grottoes, where it is possible to spot fur seals enjoying a spot of shade.

The Galapagos Islands

AM: Black Turtle Cove, Santa Cruz Island

Black Turtle Cove is a living illustration of how mangroves alter a marine environment to create a rich and unique habitat. Three mangrove species crowd the area from the shore out into a shallow lake which reaches almost a mile inland.   As you drift through quiet waters in the zodiac, you are likely to see spotted eagle rays and diamond-shaped mustard rays, which swim in a diamond formation. White-tipped reef sharks slip beneath the boat and Pacific green sea turtles come to the surface for air and to mate. Waterfowl, including pelicans, herons and egrets, all feed in the cove. It’s a peaceful place where visitors often have up-close encounters with Galapagos wildlife, often making it a highlight of the trip!

On the highlands of Santa Cruz, you’ll have the opportunity to see the famous giant tortoises in the wild. So renowned are these endemic animals that they gave the archipelago its name. Birdwatching can also be enjoyed in the Santa Cruz highlands, since this area is home of finches and other Galapagos birds.

The Fausto Llerena Breeding Center, also known as Charles Darwin Research Station, features an information center, a museum, a library and a tortoise breeding station. In the tortoise breeding station, you can encounter different subspecies of tortoises which prepared for reintroduction to their natural habitats. The newest exhibit honors “Lonesome George,” the last surviving tortoise from Pinta Island that sadly died of natural causes in 2012. With his species now extinct, Lonesome George has become an icon of the importance preserving and protecting wildlife.

Depart Ecuador

AM: Isla Lobos & Departure

Accessed by zodiac, Isla Lobos gets its name from the herds of sea lions that have made their home here. Snorkeling in the calm clear water provides a unique opportunity to see these inquisitive and playful animals up close and it is also common to be accompanied by green turtles and rays as well. Inland, there is a trail where you can expect to encounter nesting sites for blue-footed boobies and frigates.

After this last visit, you will be transferred with fellow guests to the San Cristobal Airport for your flight to Quito.

Upon arrival in Quito, collect your luggage and make your way to the arrivals hall where you will be met by your private guide and driver for your transfer to the EB Hotel. Accommodations will be reserved for day/evening use to provide you with a place to relax and freshen up before your overnight flight.
